FEBRUARY

Hey there Irving fans. Start getting geared up for John Irving's next novel, THE FOURTH HAND. I gave you this title in the last newsletter, and the onsale date of July 3. I think I know what we'll all be reading over the Independence Day holiday this year.

I'll continue to feed you details as I can release them and beginning in May I'll have advance excerpts exclusively for this list. The author has also agreed to once again answer questions from fans on the newsletter. Here is what I can say about the plot of THE FOURTH HAND so far:

While reporting a story from India, a New York television journalist has his left hand eaten by a lion; millions of TV viewers witness the accident. In Boston, a renowned hand surgeon awaits the opportunity to perform the nation's first hand transplant; meanwhile, in the distracting aftermath of an acrimonious divorce, the surgeon is seduced by his housekeeper. A married woman in Wisconsin wants to give the one-handed reporter her husband's left hand-that is, after her husband dies. But the husband is alive, relatively young, and healthy.

And this, of course, is only the beginning. You won't be shocked at all to learn that Irving is once again diving into the murky world of love, morality, tragedy and the weird. Basically, every day stuff.
